Lisa Leslie and Retirement
07/20/2009
This Saturday, Lisa Leslie took time out of her schedule to chat about her decision to retire from competitive basketball, her role in women's sports history and the future of Trojan Basketball.
If you missed this candid conversation between myself and Lisa, you will want to visit iTunes.com for a FREE download of the show.
What did I learn from Lisa?
Balancing work and motherhood is challenging for women from all professions and levels of success. For a high performing athlete, it is an understatement to say it is "tough". Athletes strive for excellence that borders on improbable extremes for the general population. When you consider that motherhood changes a woman's body type & chemistry, schedule and overall priorities in life.... This is a recipe that would create a sense of falling short for most athletes. In other professions, a new mother who is at the top of her game in the workplace may be able to sacrifice on time at the gym, but not if your work is sports.
Hats off to Lisa Leslie for her contribution to women's sports, and for doing so with class.
